A podcast is a digital medium consisting of audio (or video) episodes that relate to a specific theme. A podcast has the potential to inform, inspire, or engage its audience. Podcasts are primarily an audio medium, but some distribute in video, either as their primary content or as a supplement to audio; popularised in recent years by video platform YouTube. A podcast series usually features one or more recurring hosts engaged in a discussion about a particular topic or current event. Ultimately, a podcast is a way to share content. While some enjoy reading articles, others prefer something they can listen to. Podcasting is flexible, and podcasters can use the medium in many ways. The central idea of a podcast refers to the main theme or message that the podcast is trying to convey. It is the overarching concept that ties together the different parts of the podcast and provides a clear focus for the content. Podcasts are free (for the most part) and easy to find, and given their growing popularity, cover a wider and deeper range of topics than ever before.
